Shuswap Day Care Society, is a non-profit organization offering quality daycare to children and families from Salmon Arm and surrounding areas since September 1969. The society has successfully grown over the years and now owns and operates two childcare facilities, Shuswap Day Care Centre & Shuswap Pre-School / Out of School Program. The society has several programs offering full-time and part-time care depending on the age of your child and your requirements.

• Infant & Toddler Program: 6 months to 3 years
• 3 to 5 Year Old Program
• Pre-School Program: 3 Years to 5 years
• Out of School Program: Full-Day Kindergarten to 12 years

We provide the highest quality Early Childhood Education within a warm and nurturing environment. We are proud of our dedicated staff and the many years of service the society has contributed to the community of Salmon Arm.

$10 A DAY CHILDCAREBC PROGRAM 

We are so excited that the Shuswap Day Care Centre has been selected as of October 1, 2022 to participate in the $10 a Day ChildCareBC Program. The $10-a-day program expansion represents further progress in partnership with the federal government under the Canada-B.C. Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement. To support the goal of ensuring access to high quality, affordable and inclusive early learning and child care. As of January 1, 2024 our second facility Shuswap Pre-School / Out of School Program has also be accepting into the $10-a-day program. 

ENROLLMENT WAITLIST & REGISTRATION

We currently have wait lists for entry into all of our daycare programs, the length of time your child may be on a waitlist depends on the program and schedule required. Please email management @ shuswapdaycare@telus.net  to inquire about your specific needs. We recommend ALL parents call the local Child Care Resource and Referral @ 250-832-4191 for a list and contact information for other licensed childcare providers. 

Our current waitlist is 23 pages long.

Infant & Toddler Program – Our infant and toddler program is licensed to accommodate 12 children per day. Many children in the program start at 12 months of age and will remain in the program until the age of 3. Our waitlist only has movement when a child ages out of program or withdraws. This program is currently running at full capacity until the end of 2026/2027 before we will see current waitlist move. 

3-5 Year Old Program – We are currently running at full capacity with a lengthy waitlist. All in house toddlers schedules are accommodated prior to waitlist moving. There seems to be a pattern that the waitlist in this program tends to move in the fall as we have children age out when they start kindergarten. This program is running at capacity until September 2026/2027 before we will see current list move.

Out of  School Program – We are no longer accepting enrollment requests for the Out of School Program as we are running full and see very little turnover as our in house families move into that program. If a child on the waitlist becomes school age and has not started at our centre they will be removed from the waitlist.

Pre-School Program – Preschool classes run September to June, following the same calendar schedule as school district #83. Registration opens January 1st each year, $25.00 non-refundable registration fee is due at time of registering and to secure your child’s spot in this program. All registration enquiries MUST be sent via Email to shuswapdaycare@telus.net with your child’s name, DOB, class preference Mon & Wed or Tue & Thur, parent contact info email/phone number. Management will send email to confirm there is room in requested class, at that time the $25.00 is due. Please call 250-803-8244 for more information or to register your child. For classes starting in September 2024 the Tues/Thur class is full, we still have room in our Mon/Wed class.

As of January 1, 2024 Pre-School fees are $7.00per scheduled class. 

FUNDRAISING & DONATIONS

Our society is also a registered charity and issue tax receipts for all cash donations over $25.00. If you are wanting to make a donation to our society please call Karen or Heather @ 250-832-6192. Throughout the year we do various fundraisers as needed to complete projects at our facilities. 

HOT LUNCH / PROGRAM SPONSORS

The society is always seeking individuals / businesses to become a hot lunch / program sponsor. Donations received assist the society in offering a nutritious monthly hot lunch to all registered children and allows us to add enhancements to our programs. 

A minimum donation of $100.00 sponsors one month hot lunch. 

ON-GOING FUNDRAISERS  

Year round bottle drive – Refundable containers can be dropped off at the main centre at any time. Please leave items by large blue wooden recycle bin by front door entrance.
